I like to keep things simple and try to make getting dressed easy. I find that the best pieces are ones you can rewear year after year, and work with a variety of outfits. Enter, a great coat. A great coat has the ability to effortlessly elevate any look, and stand the test of time, in terms of both durability and the ever-changing landscape of fashion. So, here are some great coats for this season and the rest of your life.

Black Wool Coats

This is really just a love letter to this coat, because I love it that much. It’s timeless, perfectly oversized, and made from an ultra soft wool. It can be worn with or without the belt, and is the solution to all (okay most) of my problems. I throw it on over leggings and sneakers for my walk to pilates, or with denim for a night out. Regardless of what I have on underneath, the coat instantly makes me feel fabulous. It works October - April, and always fits just right (S), whether I'm wearing a t-shirt or a heavy sweater.

Classic. Can’t go wrong. A long black coat will always make me think of winter in New York, and is the easiest way to look chic without trying. I love the look of a double breasted, slightly more structured silhouette, but there’s just something I find so comforting and wearable about a belted coat.

Puffer Coats

A black puffer can feel… well, like a black puffer. Profound, I know. It’s functional and serves a purpose (I wear mine regularly in Chicago, so no shade), but if you’re looking for something slightly more stand out with the same level of functionality, a white coat is an easy swap. I also love the utilitarian feel of this one, and if you’re really looking for something to set you apart, this is the perfect combination of glossy and burgundy.

For when you want your coat to be the outfit. I can’t stress enough how far a statement coat can take you. An ivory or bold leather can bring some much needed energy to your look during the colder months.

This might just be my favorite coat in here, which is saying a lot. It’s screaming “I’ll be in your closet forever and passed down for generations”. And that’s it. That’s the outfit.
